Zazen Meditation Instruction
Every Sunday at 8:15am
This weekly instruction will familiarize new students with the bare bones of sitting practice. Since each instructor emphasizes different elements of the basic teachings, students are invited to attend this instruction as often as they wish. After attending meditation instruction for the first time, attendees may begin sitting in the zendo at the regularly scheduled times. No registration for zazen instruction is required.
Meet in front of the Zendo. Please arrive between 8:00 am and 8:15 am. Program funded by donation.
Sunday Morning Meditation
On Sundays at 9:25 am, a period of silent meditation in the zendo is followed immediately by a dharma talk (see Sunday Program). Those who have had zazen instruction and are beginning their practice are particularly encouraged to attend, but all are welcome.
Saturday Half-Day Introductory Sittings
This sitting is for new students and those who wish to participate in a gentler schedule. Read more/see dates...
One Day Sittings
One-day sittings at Green Gulch offer traditional Soto Zen all-day meditation practice. Formal oryoki meals are served in the zendo. Please be in the zendo by 4:50 am. Participants are welcome to stay for an informal dinner at 6 pm. It is recommended to have attended the Sunday morning meditation instruction and Half-Day Introductory Sitting.
Guest Student Stay
Guest Students reside in student housing and participate in the full meditation work schedule and attend classes, lectures, and ceremonies. This program offers short-term residency to those interested in beginning or deepening Zen practice with the support of a community. Read more.
We invite you to work with us by becoming a volunteer at Green Gulch Farm. Volunteering is an opportunity to experience working wholeheartedly in a practice setting while give your time and energy to the Sanga. Please read more here.
