Tassajara

Welcome to Tassajara Zen Mountain Center

Zenshinji (Zen Heart-Mind Temple) is located in central California, in a remote valley in the heart of the Ventana Wilderness area of the Los Padres National Forest. Tassajara was founded in 1967 by the late Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Closed to visitors during the fall and winter months, in late spring and summer Tassajara is opened to day and overnight guests.

Tassajara is beginning to restore its traditional schedule. The Winter 2022 Practice Period, led by Tenzen David Zimmerman, is taking place January 6 – April 4, 2022.

SFZC intends to welcome back summer guests on April 28, 2022. Opportunities to work and stay at the monastery for new students and old friends alike will also be open.

All travelers to Tassajara should review and practice Tassajara's Covid health and safety guidelines.
