Zenshinji (Zen Heart-Mind Temple) is located in central California, in a remote valley in the heart of the Ventana Wilderness area of the Los Padres National Forest. It is the oldest Sōtō Zen Buddhist training monastery in the United States, founded in 1967 by the late Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Closed to visitors during the fall and winter months, in late spring and summer Tassajara is opened to day and overnight guests.
Tassajara is beginning to restore its traditional schedule. In Fall 2021, there is a Practice Period at Tassajara with Ryushin Paul Haller. There is also a winter practice period planned to begin in January 2022; a description and details about applying will be available this fall.
SFZC intends to welcome back summer guests on April 29, 2022. Opportunities to work and stay at the monastery for new students and old friends alike will also be open.
