Tassajara Zen Mountain Center

Tassajara is a natural hot spring located in a remote valley in the heart of the Ventana Wilderness in California. It was founded in 1967 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi as Zenshinji (Zen Heart-Mind Temple). Tassajara is a Zen training temple that offers intensive practice periods in the fall and winter.

We are pleased to announce that in Summer 2024, after having been closed to guests for 4 years due to Covid and staffing, we are once again able to offer a limited number of rooms for guests as part of teacher-led retreats and Zen Practice Weeks.

Tassajara welcomes applications for work practice April 10 – September 26, 2024, both for returning SFZC students and new students with a Zen teacher recommendation. The application and further information can be found on the Summer Work Practice 2024 web page.
