Tassajara Zen Mountain Center

Tassajara is a natural hot springs located in a remote valley in the heart of the Ventana Wilderness in central California. Established as Zenshinji (Zen Heart-Mind Temple) in 1967 under the direction of founding teacher Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, Tassajara became a Zen training temple with practice periods in the fall and winter and a guest program during the summer. After many uninterrupted years, this seasonal rhythm came to a halt with the Covid-19 pandemic, making it impossible to host a summer guest program since.

After much discussion, it was decided that the summer guest season will remain closed in 2023 in order to restore, repair, and repopulate Tassajara for a robust and beautiful 2024 summer season. We look forward to seeing you then!
