The meditative body-mind engages in practice on a spectrum between activity and stillness. Both the Buddha Shakyamuni and the yogis of old offered teachings on how to practice across this spectrum. These practices develop balance, stability, and ease.
In the second of this two-part series, we will explore the air and fire elements in practice. Each 4-class series will offer mind-body practices from both Zen and yoga traditions to support meditation, providing references from the written traditions of each. The series can be taken individually or in sequence. The first series takes place in May.
Preparation:
Set up a space with room for a yoga mat, a sturdy chair, and a meditation cushion if you have one. You may find it helpful to have two yoga blocks, a yoga strap, and a few blankets, but these props aren’t required.
