The Song of the Jewel Mirror Samadhi is in praise of a miraculous gift:
“The teaching of thusness that has been intimately communicated by Buddhas and Ancestors.”

In this Dharma poem, Dongshan uses his own teaching of the Five Ranks to express again and again the interplay and interpenetration of the Ultimate truth and the Relative truth as they reflect one another, like a net of bright jewels sparkling in the moonlight.

The word Samadhi is taken from the perspective of a meditator who is so absorbed in the object of meditation that the separation between object and subject has vanished. In this state, just the simple sounds of a bird, a bell, or a human child waking from sleep have a profound resonance.

You’re invited to join Senior Dharma Teacher Fu Schroeder to delve closely into this inspiring work by founding Soto Zen ancestor, Dongshan Liangjie.
