In this four week class, we will discuss these primary teachings offered by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi in the last year and a half of his life. These 12 Dharma talks, given in the summer heat at Tassajara in 1970, were published in 1999 under the title Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness. These talks were a gift in honor of Roshi's favorite Dharma poem by Chinese Zen ancestor, Sekito Kisen, the Sandokai. Translated into English as The Harmony of Difference and Equality, the Sandokai is a core text of the Zen tradition.

As with all of Suzuki Roshi’s teachings, we are taught to be open to all possibilities by just being present in each moment and accepting the non-dual reality of each moment with openness and clarity.
