Sunday, February 19, 4 pm PT – Friday, February 24, 5 pm PT

Genzo-e (Eyeball-Treasury Assembly) is a meditation retreat combining silent zazen with study of Dogen Zenji’s True Dharma Eye Treasury/Shobogenzo. In this retreat we will take up and thoroughly investigate his essay "Shinjin Gakudo" ("Body-and-Mind Study of the Way") which teaches that body, mind, and the whole world are an inseparable whole, and that the practice and verification of this nondual reality is true freedom.

Sesshin includes morning and afternoon talks, optional personal meetings with the teacher, and oryoki meals.

Those participating online will have access to a livestream of the twice daily Dharma talks. Zazen and services will not be streamed. The daily Dharma talks will be 10:10 – 11:40 am PT and 3:30 – 5:00 pm PT. Please sign in at least five minutes before each talk begins.

For those participating in person, in order to understand the nature of our formal retreats, and to be clear about the details of the practice, please review a typical sesshin schedule, as well as the guidelines for zendo conduct. We ask those who attend sesshin to commit to following these guidelines and to participating in the schedule completely. If you have questions regarding the schedule or guidelines, please consult with the head of the meditation hall, the ino, via email (ggfino@sfzc.org) before completing your registration.

  • In-person (onsite) participation is open to those who:

    - have experience with formal Zen practice, including at least two in-person One-day Sittings at Green Gulch or City Center (or comparable experience and permission of sesshin leader)
    - are fully vaccinated for Covid-19
    - agree to follow Covid-19 protocols in place at the time of the retreat, which may include testing and masking requirements

  • Online registration is available to all.
