Description

Deepen your connection with Tassajara through the teachings of three rich traditions: the wisdom of the Esselen people, the practice of Zen Buddhism, and the insight of ecological observation.

The mountains and waters surrounding Tassajara arose from the Earth’s crust millions of years ago. The Esselen People were the first humans to inhabit this land, followed by Anglo hunters, vacationers, and Zen practitioners. Heat, ice, fire, and flood have shaped all who come here. What can this place teach us? What will appear that we don’t expect? How will we be changed?

Engaging in storytelling, botanizing, and bird watching, we will learn from our surroundings. Through Dharma talks, walking meditation, ceremony, and zazen, we will cultivate our awareness, drawing understanding from our direct experiences and from the shared insights of others.

No previous experience is necessary; everyone is welcome to attend this retreat.
