Four Saturdays, 8:30 – 10 am PT, Online
In the realm of Buddhist teachings, Dogen's "Genjo Koan" is a luminous star, revealing profound insights within a few concise pages. Crafted early in Dogen's teaching years, this text was addressed to a lay follower and meticulously lays out core aspects of his teachings. In fact, some believe it encapsulates his comprehensive understanding. Over the course of four illuminating Saturdays, this online series invites participants to delve deeply into the "Genjo Koan." Through rigorous examination, we'll unravel Dogen's recurrent motifs and reflect upon their relevance in our contemporary lives.
Rev. Shundo David Haye will also draw on Suzuki Roshi's talks on the subject, given over the course of eighteen months, and examine how looking at different translations of such a dense text can offer great possibilities for understanding. Through this series, participants will not only grasp Dogen's fundamental points but will also experience the fluidity and richness of interpretation within Buddhist teachings.
