Sundays, 9:30 – 11 am PT
Suitable for practitioners of all levels.
The traditions of Buddhism and Yoga each offer practices leading to samadhi, the imperturbable composure of body and mind. The eightfold noble path, taught by the Buddha, and the eight-limbed path of Yoga, taught by Patanjali, culminate in samadhi. Both traditions teach mindfulness of body and breath as the entry to this transformative journey.
Each class will introduce a sequence of asanas (Yoga postures) to begin the training of mental attention to body and breath, followed by breathing practices (pranayama) from the Yoga tradition, and breathing practices taught by the Buddha in the "Satipatthana Sutta" and "Anapanasati Sutta" (from the Theravada tradition). Each class will end with a period of meditation (zazen).
At the beginning of each meeting, Shokuchi will offer basic dharma instruction on the relevant texts for these practices.
One-on-one practice discussion and group Q&A will be available online by appointment during the 8-week series.
A recording of each class will be available for home practice.
