Shokuchi Deirdre Carrigan

Shokuchi Deirdre Carrigan is an ordained Soto Zen priest in the lineage of Suzuki Roshi, as well as a Yoga teacher and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She received priest ordination from Tenshin Reb Anderson in 2010 and trained for more than a decade in residence at Green Gulch Farm. She served as Tanto at Brooklyn Zen Center from 2017-2020. 

Shokuchi’s yoga practice in the Donald Moyer tradition began at a Zen and Yoga retreat co- led by Tenshin Reb Anderson and Donald Moyer at Green Gulch Farm in 1984, and was followed by more than eight years of study at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco with Judith Lasater, and 25 years of study with Donald Moyer at The Yoga Room. She completed The Advanced Studies Program at The Yoga Room in 1992 where she served on the faculty. She has taught yoga widely throughout the SF Bay Area for more than 20 years and currently teaches In New York City. 

Shokuchi has been co-leading Zen and Yoga retreats at Tassajara since 2002, and at Green Gulch since 2014. During the pandemic, she continued to teach yoga and to co-lead Zen and Yoga retreats online, as well as offering individual sessions in functional health coaching. She currently resides at WaterMoon Guanyin Hermitage in Brooklyn, New York.
