Shodo Spring practiced at San Francisco Zen Center for 5 years and completed her Soto Zen priest training at Sanshin Zen Community. Her practice has always been both rooted in the natural world and engaged with human society. She led the 2013 Compassionate Earth Walk along the Great Plains KXL route, and came home to Minnesota to found the Mountains and Waters Alliance. She wrote Take Up Your Life in 1996, has contributed to several Zen anthologies, and edited The Mountains and Waters Sutra, Okumura Roshi’s commentary on Dogen’s Sansuikyo.
Shodo lives on a small farm envisioned as home for a spiritual, earth-loving, activist community. She has two children and four grandchildren. Open Reality: Meeting the Polycrisis Together With All Beings is her newest book and the fruit of forty years of practice.
