Dambi Kim is a multidisciplinary artist working with tea, incense, plants, and contemporary ritual. Her practice explores multisensory awareness and the relationships between humans, plants, and environments, grounded in research across herbalism, philosophy, and sensory studies. She tries to deliver the serenity and transience of life through tea, incense, words, and sounds.
By playing a Korean traditional black zither, Dambi was first introduced to the way of tea. Philosophically, medieval Japanese Tea Master Sep Rikyu's wabi-sabi teaching immensely caught her mind. She fell in love with Chinese tea during her sojourn in Europe, and returned to Asia to learn Eastern tea and incense ceremony as well as Buddhist cuisine.
With her practice, she hopes for a revival of a lost connection between human and non-human beings in a playful manner.
