For over sixty years, San Francisco Zen Center’s three temples have sheltered the living practice of Soto Zen Buddhism, offering the path of wisdom, compassion, and community to all who seek it. From City Center to Green Gulch Farm to Tassajara, these beloved places offer a steady home for a way of life rooted in the practice and teachings of our founder Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.

Now, many of these buildings, lands, and systems need serious attention so they can continue to support this unique offering. This campaign is an invitation to roll up our sleeves together—to preserve the places that make our vows visible and sustain Zen practice for generations to come.

Living with older buildings and landscapes that require careful tending means that we are continuously encountering unexpected repairs and maintenance and that occasionally, major renovations and serious updates are required.

In response, we have created the Temple Stewardship Fund to garner the resources we need to be good stewards to our Dharma homes. We are seeking supporters and donors who share the vision of SFZC's mission and understanding that nothing is possible without the wisdom and compassion we seek to cultivate every day in our practice.

What specific projects will be supported by this fund? The purpose of the Temple Stewardship Fund is to fund urgent projects that need prompt attention before the issue worsens. Donations will also go towards emergency situations, as well as funding for a skilled professional position to provide the safety, compliance, and efficiency needed to manage the dozens of buildings and hundreds of acres of land that we are careful stewards of.

This is a restricted fund, meaning that all donations will go only to these projects and will not be used for other operational purposes. We invite you to come 'roll up your sleeves' with us and become a critical part of this organization and its future.

Please consider making a one-time gift to our Temple Stewardship Fund or join other caretakers with single, ongoing gifts or monthly giving.
