Two Sundays, 2 – 4 pm PT
We invite you to a two-part series of teachings and conversations with Abbot Jiryu Rutschman-Byler in dialogue with special guest Guo Gu, founder of the Tallahassee Chan Center.
Guo Gu has been practicing for nearly forty years, thirty of them under the guidance of the late Master Sheng Yen. He has also translated and explored the writings of Hongzhi Zhengjue (1091–1157) and other Chan ancestors, and brings a grounded perspective on methods such as Silent Illumination (mozhao chan) and Huatou practice.
Green Gulch Farm Abiding Abbot Jiryu Rutschman-Byler received Dharma transmission from Sojun Mel Weitsman and is the author of Two Shores of Zen and co-editor of Becoming Yourself: Teachings on the Zen Way of Life by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.
Together, Jiryu and Guo Gu will reflect on the core practices of these traditions, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Hongzhi, Dogen, and other masters. Registered participants will receive brief readings and additional details in advance of the first session.
