Description

The SFZC Family Sangha invites families of all kinds to explore Zen practice together in ways that are meaningful, supportive, and joyful.

Rooted in the Soto Zen lineage of Suzuki Roshi, Family Sangha creates spaces where children, parents, and caregivers can come together in community. Our offerings include seasonal daylong retreats at Green Gulch Farm, summer retreats at both Green Gulch and Tassajara, online gatherings for parents and caregivers, and special events to honor grief, loss, and healing.

Through play, creativity, and storytelling, we welcome the wisdom of children, learn about our Zen ancestors, and explore how family life itself can be a path of practice.

A Special Morning with the SFZC Family Sangha

With Meikyo Chelsea True, Junsen Shelly Hughes, and Kanjin Yael Raff Peskin

This special offering is an opportunity to learn more about the SFZC Family Sangha.

We’ll meet outside the zendo at 9:45 am with a quiet song circle.  At 10:00 am, we’ll visit the zendo together, where poet, author, and ordained Zen priest Zenju Earthlyn Manuel Osho will address the children. Then, families will proceed outside to explore the farm and connect with the land.

The morning program concludes with tea and muffins outside the zendo at 11:30 am.

(Families who registered in advance for our full Daylong Family Sangha retreat will continue with regularly scheduled activities until 2:00 pm.)

The SFZC Family Sangha welcomes multi-generational families, parents, caregivers, self-partnered people, those caring for their elders, grandparents, aunties, uncles, siblings and niblings, foster parents, children of all ages, and anyone dedicated to healing their family lineages.

Please come prepared for the weather and the farm. We request that all children be supervised at all times. Content is most appropriate for children ages 3–12.

Fee Information

Suggested donation for the morning program only is $20 per family or as your means allow. No one is turned away for lack of funds.

Pre-registration is not required for this special, morning only event. Seasonal Daylong Retreats and other events with the SFZC Family Sangha do require advanced registration and space is limited. We hope this morning event will help us to continue widening the path of family practice.
