Iyengar Yoga Asana for Stability and Ease in Sitting

As Dogen Zenji was transmitting our tradition from China to Japan, his first writings included the teaching that zazen, the Soto Zen form of seated meditation, “is not learning meditation, but is simply the Dharma gate of repose and bliss, the practice-realization of totally culminated enlightenment.” Yet often in real life, our experience is actually not one of bliss, but of discomfort.

How do we develop the capacity for unshakeable meditative repose and bliss, starting with the very real problems of our actual body and mind? Starting with practitioners’ questions, we build zazen posture through the actions of a custom-built Iyengar yoga sequence, establishing comfort and ease throughout body and mind: physical, physiological, energetic, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.

Please eat lightly at lunch, and wear comfortable clothing that can be adjusted to expose feet, hands, elbows, and knees. Practitioners at various levels of ability and experience are welcome.
