Myles' path to Buddhism began with regular sittings with Dharma Punx and longer retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. A pivotal moment occurred during his participation in the SATI Center's year-long Buddhist Chaplaincy Training Program, where his service work had a profound impact on his life.
After leaving the corporate world in 2012, Myles deepened his commitment to practice by moving into San Francisco Zen Center. He received lay initiation from his teacher Ruyshin Paul Haller at Black Mountain Zen Centre in Belfast and was later ordained as a priest by Paul in 2019. He served as shuso for the Tassajara Winter 2024 practice period, a leadership role that demonstrated his deepening practice.
Myles retired as the Director of Donor Relations from San Francisco Zen Center in July 2022 but continues to practice with Paul. He dedicates himself to a solitary practice, sitting alone six days a week in his home in Sebastopol, CA.
