Although distinct practices, Hatha Yoga and Zen Buddhism have many mutually supportive and complimentary teachings. In this retreat we’ll enjoy the longer days of summer as we practice daily yoga classes led by Patricia. Tassajara's current Head of Practice, Heather Iarusso, will lead periods of zazen, Dharma talks, and discussion.
This five-night retreat is an opportunity to enter deeply into a slower, more reflective environment than your home and work environments can provide. At Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in the Ventana Wilderness, participants are invited to allow what is deepest inside to be revealed and experienced, supported by the striking beauty of the valley, the hot springs and cool creek waters flowing next to the bathhouse, and the delicious meals prepared three times each day. Early morning zazen with the community is also open to us.
Our sessions of Zen and yoga practice combine to create a unique experience each time we meet.
Morning yoga classes will include active postures from the Iyengar yoga system as well as other traditions. We might work intensely, but without forcing, and will often spend time in poses in order to explore them, and ourselves, deeply. Lingering in yoga asanas, you’ll be guided to discover more and allow the particular benefit of each pose to be felt and understood. Afternoon yoga will include floor stretching and restoratives as well as some basic pranayama (breath practices). Our periods of zazen and Dharma talks offer a deep exploration of a different kind, enlarging our field of mindful awareness. Join us!
