Description and more dates for Youth & Family Program

On the first Sunday of each month, 10 – 11 am, Green Gulch Farm offers a special program for families, currently held remotely due to Covid-19.

Our program begins at 10 am with a family-friendly meditation. Our time together provides an opportunity to practice as a family sangha and discover creative ways for integrating Zen practice into our family systems. Activities may include mindfulness-based art projects, storytelling, movement, or ritual. As always, our program is nature-based, inviting us to attune to seasonal rhythms to nourish and support our practice.

Ages: Because this is a family program and parents/guardians participate alongside their young people, we welcome youth of all ages. The average age ranges from 5 to 12 years old but babies, toddlers, and teens are absolutely welcome and do join us regularly.

Turning Towards the Land: The Paramita of Generosity

Our theme for August is generosity. In our program, we always look to the land as a dharma teacher—and this time of year so much on the land is in an outward expression of giving, demonstrating the paramita of generosity. In past programs, we’ve had the chance to really explore and appreciate the farm and garden so we can touch, taste, see, and smell the generosity there.

This year, because we’re online, we will explore how to bring generosity into our actions, so that our practice is socially engaged. We’ll look at the book Peace, Love, Action! Everyday Acts of Goodness by Tanya Zabinski and hear about Indigenous water activist Autumn Peltier and how in the Indigenous worldview, water is sacred, alive, and has spirit. We’ll share a simple water ritual, creating an opportunity to participate in the cycle of giving and receiving and we’ll explore ways for continuing with the practice of generosity at home as a family throughout the month.

Our team brings a wide range of experience, including Expressive Arts, Somatic Psychology, and sustainable land practices.
