Begins at 8 pm
Come ring in the New Year with the Green Gulch Farm Sangha!
The evening program begins with meditation in the zendo and sutra recitation in the Wheelwright Center. From 8pm on, we will alternate sitting and standing meditation until midnight, pausing around 10pm for a hot noodle snack. Sitting ends at midnight with a lotus lights ceremony from the zendo to the garden, and the traditional 108 strikes on the Great Bell. A fire and hot rice drink close the evening for anyone who would like to stay later.
Those registered to stay overnight will bring sleeping bags and sleep in the zendo after the ceremony, and then join early morning meditation on New Year’s Day, followed by a procession to the memorial site of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, where a ceremony and toast will be offered.
