Description

The event will take place at 297 Page Street (at Laguna).

Beginning in 2024, the San Francisco Zen Center will be collaborating with LitCamp, the nonprofit behind Page Street Coworking, on a series of literary events that will feature some of the best Buddhist (and Buddhist-adjacent) authors from the Bay Area, and beyond.

These events will bring together the wider SFZC sangha and the local literary community for wide-ranging conversations about Buddhism, the practice of writing, and how they feed each other.

Our first ZenLit event will focus on Buddhist memoirs, and feature three outstanding authors; Faith Adiele, author of Meeting Faith: The Forest Journals of a Black Buddhist Nun, a memoir about ordaining as the first Black Buddhist nun of Thailand; Katy Butler, whose memoir Knocking on Heaven’s Door: The Path to a Better Way of Death was a New York Times bestseller; and Susan Moon, author of numerous books, including Alive Until You’re Dead: Notes on the Home Stretch.

Moderating will be Josan Janis Cooke Newman, author and Zen practitioner.

Tea and cookies will be served, and the SFZC bookstore will be on hand to sell the author’s books.
