SFZC Family Sangha Retreat at Tassajara, ZMC 7/28–8/2 – Waitlist Only
Description
With Meikyo Chelsea True, Junsen Shelly Hughes, and Kanjin Yael Raff Peskin
The SFZC Family Sangha is happy to welcome families to this annual five-night retreat at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.
In this special offering, we make space for moving at the pace of mountains and waters, discover the wisdom of children, and share the Dharma through family-friendly practice, connection with nature, and creative projects. We connect with the resident community, learning about work practice in the kitchen, zendo, and garden, and we explore family practice as a path for healing our ancestral lineages.
Throughout this retreat, families will have time to practice together. There will also be opportunities for parents and caregivers to receive support from our retreat team while children engage with the Tassajara residents, sharing garden, kitchen, and nature projects in separate groups.
Our Family Sangha team will offer age-appropriate groups for younger children, school-age children, and teens.
The SFZC Family Sangha welcomes multi-generational families, parents, caregivers, self-partnered people, those caring for their elders, grandparents, aunties, uncles, siblings and niblings, foster parents, children of all ages, and anyone dedicated to healing their family lineages.

Meikyo Chelsea True
Meikyo Chelsea True (she/they) came to Green Gulch Farm nearly twenty years ago with her daughter, Amelie, and has supported family practice at SFZC ever since. She first encountered Zen as a child and began meditating at the age of sixteen before completing an undergraduate degree in Religious Studies.

Junsen Shelly Hughes
Junsen Shelly Hughes (she/her) has embraced Zen practice for nearly two decades. Motherhood and Mother Earth are the heart of her practice. Through her work as a restoration ecologist, environmental educator, herbalist and artist, Junsen weaves listening, interbeing, and healing as dharma threads.

Kanjin Yael Raff Peskin
Kanjin Yael Raff Peskin (she/her) interweaves her Jewish ritual observance and her Zen practice with her dedication to social justice and cultivating beauty in the world. She received lay ordination from Vietnamese Zen Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh in 1993 and in the Soto Zen lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi from Hoka Chris Fortin at Tassajara, where Yael has been returning since 1988 and, in recent years, has been part of the Tassajara kitchen crew.
