Deep Rest in Zen and Yoga: Learning to Let Go, ZMC 8/11–8/16
Description
Deep Rest is a skill many of us haven’t been taught—but deeply need. With regular practice of Deep Rest, we can learn how to allow mind and body to readily transition from their everyday activated (sympathetic) state to a parasympathetic mode. Deep Rest is a state of body and mind that is mentally and physically in repose, and one that brings balance and ease to our experience of life. Entering Deep Rest, one experiences a profound stillness that is sustained without strain, one that supports the cultivation of meditative tranquility.
In this Deep Rest Retreat, within the beauty and serenity of Tassajara, we will practice letting go in Restorative Yoga postures, expand our breathing practice in pranayama (yogic breathing), and explore Buddhist teachings relating to the practice of tranquility on and off the cushion. There will also be time each day for walks, a swim, bathing in the hot springs, and delicious vegetarian meals.
