Kindness, mindfulness, and therapeutic tools are engaged to shift our relationship with depression, anxiety, and their companions—judgement and self-criticism—in San Francisco Zen Center’s Transforming Depression and Anxiety (TDA), and Finding Ease with Anxiety classes.
This 3-month virtual practice community supports participants of these courses in practicing compassion and using session tools to disrupt reactive mental patterns that threaten to steal our peace of mind-heart and the moment. We will also engage noticing and questioning the old stories we have long believed about ourselves that can literally poison our perceptions of self, others, and reality. Our purpose is to live more fully in the present moment, less affected by reactivity, rumination and worry—one of the most powerful antidotes to lowered and agitated moods.
Led by Jisho Lisa Beth Hoffman, each group will include a brief guided meditation, a short teaching about a TDA practice, discussion, and a closing guided mediation. TDA workshop and course co-leaders Tenzen David Zimmerman and Paul Irving will occasionally join Lisa Beth or substitute for her in facilitating the group.
If you have taken TDA or Finding Ease, please try this Practice Group. If you have not experienced TDA or Finding Ease, please sign up for Sangha News which will include notices about the next offerings.
