Four Tuesdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28
In this four-week class we’ll study the Four Bodhisattva Vows through the lens of the twelve steps and principles of recovery.
In Buddhism we vow to walk the path of the Buddhist way. In recovery we commit to practicing the principles in all our affairs. What exactly does this mean, how do we embody this practice, and to what benefit?
There are many varying translations of these Four Vows. We will primarily use the SFZC and the Zen Peace Maker’s versions:
Beings are numberless, I vow to save them.
Delusions are inexhaustible, I vow to end them.
Dharma gates are boundless, I vow to enter them.
Buddha's Way is unsurpassable, I vow to become it.
(SFZC)
Numberless beings, I vow to serve them.
Inexhaustible delusions, I vow to end them.
Boundless Dharmas, I vow to practice them.
Unsurpassable Buddha Way, I vow to embody it.
(Zen Peace Maker)
Using lectures, discussion, small groups, articles, and journaling, we’ll explore and deepen our shared practice. Please join us as we share our intention to inhabit these vows.
