Mondays, 7:30 – 9 pm PT
This class is the first part of a three-month summer series, “Three Turnings of the Wheel,” during which San Francisco Zen Center's senior teachers are offering classes and lectures on the Satipatthana Sutta, the Vimalakirti Sutra, and Vasubandhu’s 30 Verses.
The Satipatthana Sutta, which describes the four foundational practices of mindfulness, is one of the primary teachings of early Buddhism, known as the First Turning of the Dharma Wheel. It outlines a progressive methodology for the cultivation of awareness.
In this class we will examine each of the categories of practice in the Satipatthana and compare them to the perspectives and practices within the Zen tradition.
Each week practices derived from Satipatthana will be offered and there will be the option of participating in small peer groups to share your experiences in engaging these practices.
Paul will be referring to the following text, which can be purchased from the SFZC bookstore (firstname.lastname@example.org), Satipatthana: The Direct Path to Realization by Analayo.
