A White Tea Bowl: 100 Haiku from 100 Years of Life by Mitsu Suzuki

Mitsu Suzuki was a beloved poet and tea ceremony teacher who stayed on in residence at San Francisco Zen Center after her husband, Shunryu Suzuki, the founder of SFZC, passed away. Her poems in this book capture many moods and depictions of Zen Center that will provide a fertile ground for our discussions about her personally and about the evocative form of the haiku. Additionally, Lieberman will include a historical perspective on the role of the temple wife, tea, and haiku as living forms of Zen temple arts. Lieberman had the good fortune to meet Mitsu-san in Japan and have a cup of tea with her.

This weekly airing includes the host speaking about the book; a recorded audio interview conducted by Celeste Perry with a noted guest person who has read the book and picked a favorite page to discuss; group discussion of the content of book and how it applies to practice. This is not a "book club" but another way to consider the Dharma from a page of the book as a gateway.

Please consider purchasing the book in advance from the Zen Center Bookstore by calling 415-354-0397 (for queries contact bookstore@sfzc.org) or from one of your local booksellers. You can support local bookstores by shopping online at bookshop.org.
