Four Saturdays, 2 – 4 pm PT
This 4-class, monthly study group will explore how koans (stories of awakening) can be a mirror into our lives and practice, helping us to access the deep wisdom of women practitioners going back to the time of the Buddha. In each meeting, we will take up a story from The Hidden Lamp: Stories from Twenty-Five Centuries of Awakened Women and with courage, curiosity, and the support of the group find its reflection and relevance in our modern lives.
Each month a koan will be emailed in advance of the meeting. During our time together we will be reading, reflecting, writing, and sharing our responses. Be sure to bring something to write with.
This study group is open to people of all gender identities and expressions. Experience with koans is not a prerequisite.
Zenshin Florence Caplow is a co-editor of The Hidden Lamp and Ikushin Dana Velden is a contributor. They met without words during a five-day silent sitting at the beginning of their first Tassajara Practice Period in 1998, but they have been talking nonstop ever since. Come join their conversation!
