Description

Description and more dates for Engaged Family Practice Program

On the first Sunday of each month, 10 – 11 am, Green Gulch Farm offers a special program for families, currently held remotely due to Covid-19.

Our program begins at 10 am with a family-friendly meditation. Our time together provides an opportunity to practice as a family sangha and discover creative ways for integrating Zen practice into our family systems. Activities may include mindfulness-based art projects, storytelling, movement, or ritual.

Ages: Because this is a family program and parents/guardians participate alongside their young people, we welcome youth of all ages. The average age ranges from 5 to 12 years old but babies, toddlers, and teens are absolutely welcome and do join us regularly.

October - Impermanence

The season of abundance is giving way to rest
Crimson leaves teaching us the joy of letting go

Present moment dynamic and flowing
One thing always turning into another
The earth is a great dharma teacher
Reminding us that because of impermanence
Everything is possible

And yet, turning towards this truth might feel especially tender during these difficult days — especially for the many of us who have experienced loss and grief. It feels important that we nourish ourselves as we look at these teachings. We’ll share an insightful conversation between JoAnna Macy and Stephanie Kaza, precious teachers of our time, that reflect on this evolutionary moment, our deep belonging to each other and to the living Earth.

October traditions such as Día de los Muertos, Sejiki, and Halloween ritualize the Dharma practice of impermanence, making remembrance of our loves ones that have passed into celebrations. There are many ways to honor the spirits; perhaps we can touch on the myriad ways that families might hold space for memories of loved ones during this time of year.

We will take a journey together, with a guided meditation of Earth as our oldest ancestor. As always, a nourishing movement sequence will welcome us into our bodies and let it all flow. A unique impermanence art project will be offered as well.
