SUMMARY:Easy as Breathing: Wild Heart Writing for Women\, GGF 6/10–6/14
DESCRIPTION:Loosen your creativity\, fill your page with words that want to be written\, and share your stories in an inspiring\, supportive setting. \nAuthentic\, compelling writing comes from a place of emptiness and mindfulness. By showing up\, listening\, and writing what arises\, we discover the ideas we need to bring to light. We calm the mind\, then follow playful and provocative prompts to start our pens flowing. With timed exercises\, we bypass our inner critics and write consciously and freely. Words appear. Memories stir. Tales breeze in and land on the page. After writing\, we read aloud and encourage one another\, without critiquing. \nThis practice can serve as a form of meditation or a way to discover the writer within\, jumpstart any writing project\, or add new tools to your writer’s belt. \nWriting experience is not needed. A willingness to be quiet and to play is all. \nNo special materials or advance reading are necessary. Participants should bring pen and a notebook or paper\, since laptop use is not fitting for this modality. \nThis retreat welcomes all self-identified women.

SUMMARY:Mandala: Butoh\, CC 6/12 & 6/13 – Waitlist Only
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco Zen Center is pleased to host the US premiere performance of the Butoh artist Kana Kitty\, one of the most popular Butoh dancers in Japan\, as she begins a tour of California and Mexico. \n“Butoh dancer Kana Kitty begins each performance with a poem. A little-known fact about Butoh is that its choreography is invisibly yet inextricably linked to poetry. ‘I write a poem for every performance\,’ Kana explains\, ‘and I recite it in my head while I dance. Butoh rhythm is often based on the words’ intonation.” —Tokyo Weekender magazine\, July 2024 \nKana performs extensively throughout Japan\, and often collaborates with other dancers and artists. She will be giving two different performances at SFZC. Each performance is ticketed separately: \nThis event has reached full capacity. To be added to the waitlist\, please contact rezoffice@sfzc.org. Be sure to check our calendar for more offerings\, as new events are continuously added.  \nIn addition to these performances\, Kana Kitty is facilitating a Butoh Meditation workshop (6/14).
