DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite you to a special Open House in the spirit of launching our Zen-a-thon 2026 fundraising campaign! Whether you are a longtime practitioner or visiting for the first time\, this day is curated to offer a welcoming entry point into the practice of Zen and the life of our temple. Please join us as we explore our historic City Center building\, engage with fellow practitioners\, and experience the quiet clarity of zazen in a supportive environment. \nSchedule for the Day: \nJoin us for the full morning\, or for the portions that best suit your schedule: \n\n8:00 am Arrival & Welcome: Join us in the Welcome Center for tea\, light refreshments\, and an opportunity to browse our bookstore. Enter through the bookstore door at 300 Page St.\n8:30 am Zazen Instruction: A guided introduction to Zazen (meditation) and Zendo forms\, specifically designed for those new to the practice.\n9:25 am Zazen: A period of formal seated meditation in the Zendo (meditation hall).\n10:00 am Dharma Talk: A public teaching offered by a senior practitioner.\n11:30 am Reception: Tea and cookies and a Q&A session with the Dharma teacher.\n12:00 pm Community Lunch: A traditional vegetarian meal served in the Dining Room.\n1:00 pm Guided tour of the City Center building.\n\n*Note for Experienced Practitioners: Those familiar with temple forms are welcome to join the morning’s earlier schedule at 6:30 am for Zazen\, Service\, and Soji (temple cleaning). \nOur Welcome Table will remain open from 8:00 am–1:00 pm. SUMMARY:From Golden Gate to Greens: A Peace Walk for Zen-a-thon 2026\, Greens 5/17
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Many Hands\, Many Hearts\, One Sangha\, our Zen-a-thon 2026 fundraiser\, SFZC will be hosting a Peace Walk for all to participate. \nBeginning at the Golden Gate Bridge\, SFZC priest Anshi Zachary Smith will lead this 3 mile walk through the Presidio\, Crissy Field\, and the Marina Green to Fort Mason. There we will have a closing ceremony and dedicate the merit of our effort to the awakening of all beings. An optional ticketed reception follows at Greens Restaurant\, with food and beverages. \nOur previous Peace Walk sold out as we had a limited number of spots due to permitting. This Peace Walk has the capacity to be much larger\, so we are happy to report there should be plenty of room for all. However\, space is limited for the Greens reception. We expect this part of the event to fill up quickly. (A waitlist will be available.) There are separate registrations for the walk and the reception; you can attend either or join us for both. \nWe hope you can join us\, rain or shine (check the weather forecast before you arrive!). Wear comfortable\, walking shoes\, weather-appropriate clothing\, and if you wish\, your rakusu and/or Buddhist robes are encouraged but not necessary. \nSFZC will provide a map of the route or you can download it. Photos will be taken during the walk\, so please let us know if you do not want to be in a photo. \n\nThe walk is free and open to the public.\nThe Greens Reception is $100 per person and requires an additional registration.\n\nIt is important to register in advance so we can plan for attendance.

The tour will be followed by a scenic group walk down to Muir Beach. Guests will also have a special opportunity to visit and learn more about Sowing the Moon (Shugetsu-an)\, the Green Gulch Farm tea house. \nThis event is free and open to the public. It is important to register in advance so we can plan for attendance.
