SUMMARY:Building and Embodying a Compassion-Based Life: A Meditation in Recovery Daylong Retreat\, CC 8/9
DESCRIPTION:I am responsible. When anyone\, anywhere\, reaches out for help\, I want the hand of recovery always to be there. And for that: I am responsible. Adopted at the 1965 International Convention of AA\, this statement is foundational now for most 12 step recovery programs. I vow to live and be lived for the benefit of all beings is one of the four Bodhisattva vows that are foundational in Zen Practice.  \nIn this workshop we will examine and share the ways in which we\, as people in recovery\, can practice from these foundational and beautiful platforms and maintain healthy\, safe\, and nourishing boundaries. Prentis Hemphill said\, “Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.” \nMeditation in Recovery (MiR) believes that the twining practices of 12-step recovery and Zen invite us to build\, enhance\, and sustain a compassion-based life. It is said that we can do together what we could never do alone. Using the teachings of Shantideva and other teachers we will exchange ideas for embodying a compassion-based life without sacrificing our boundaries. The principles of interconnectedness as taught by Thich Nhat Hahn will be presented and experienced during this day. \nThis day-long retreat will offer silent and walking meditation. Brief dharma talks will invite and encourage creativity and collaboration in the exploration of and embodiment of wise kindness. There will be opportunities to share our experiences\, strength\, and intentions with each other. There will be time for creative writing and storytelling; each person is welcome to share or listen as they choose. \nDuring this day long practice\, we are invited to get in touch with our bodies as integral components of spiritual practice\, recovery and healing. All bodies and minds are welcome\, and activities will be designed to include and respect all the bodies present\, moving them both safely and joyfully. Please contact the instructor if you have ideas to increase your safety\, participation\, and bliss. \nBring a bag lunch and a water bottle. No other supplies are necessary. \nFor further information contact: Koshin Steven Tierney steventierneysf@gmail.com
