with Jane HirshfieldJuly 6-11 (Sunday-Friday)
An intimate, warm-hearted poetry writing workshop in which we will explore the connection between words, worlds, and compassion toward self and other.
Writing and reading poems is a path in which the interconnection of being is basic ground. Facing inward and outward, drawing from the seamlessness of self and other, poetry—whatever its subject—invites the spirit toward an almost inevitable recognition of compassion. In this workshop we will write new “starts,” share previously written poems, and practice an open, generous, and generative attention that awakens both new language and new awareness.
This workshop will include morning poem sharing and writing experiments, conversation, and ample free time for experiencing Tassajara’s inner and outer pathways. Please bring writing paper, five poems (one page or less in length) by others to share, and if you want, copies of one poem of your own for optional workshop discussion by the group in the afternoon session.
