with Lisa Myobun Freinkel and Yo-On Jeremy Levie
in the zendo at Green Gulch Farm
Saturday, March 29, 2014
9 am - 5 pm
We will spend the day immersing ourselves in the beauty and rhythm of Shakespeare’s celebrated love poems: his sonnets. The core themes of these brief poems speak straight to the truth of the heart. We will plumb their depths, navigating the wisdom (and delusion) they offer regarding suffering, impermanence, compassion and communion.
Our day will include zazen; discussion of the poems and of the dharma that arises from their core themes; body and breath work with Shakespeare’s language; and, finally, an opportunity to craft and share our own sonnets of the heart. No prior knowledge of Shakespeare is required; the instructors—an award-winning Shakespeare professor and meditation teacher, along with Green Gulch Farm resident Zen priest Yo-On Jeremy Levie—will provide the necessary background.
