Buddha's Robe Sewing Retreat, GGF 2013

led by Kathy Early
December 16 - 19, 2013
Monday, 4 pm - Thursday lunch

Called in Japanese Fukuden-kai, a gathering for sewing the robe which is called a “field of blessings,” this retreat will be devoted to sewing Buddha's robe and sitting zazen. Retreatants will join the Green Gulch community for morning and afternoon zazen, service and soji (temple cleaning), and will sew during the day.

The retreat is open to those who have permission from their teacher to sew a rakusu in preparation for receiving the precepts, or an okesa for priest ordination. Those who have already received the precepts and wish to sew another rakusu for themselves or someone else are also welcome, as well as those who are training to teach robe sewing.

This retreat is particularly suited for those who want to sew Buddha’s robe and are unable to attend weekly classes at Green Gulch or at the City Center.

The retreat begins at 4 pm on Monday and ends with lunch on Thursday.

Fee: $100 per day for teaching and overnight accommodations.

Accommodations: We have just a few rooms available in the Wheelwright Center.

Commuters are welcome and are asked to make donations of $15 per meal and $25 per full day of teaching and $15 per partial day. Participants may attend all or any part of this retreat.

Please register in advance for full or partial attendance.

Registration: Call the GGF office at 415.383.3134 or 415.354.0411.
