The Art of Living with BeesFor our ancestors, bees were heavenly messengers, an expression of the wisdom in the universe, a spark of cosmic consciousness, and a gift to the world. To recognize and understand the unique nature of bees means to recognize and understand something of our own fundamental nature. The oneness of the bee colony reveals the interconnectedness of the world, and of ourselves within the world. In the past centuries, as bees became a commodity of modern apiculture, a deeper meaning and understanding of their true nature was lost. Only a more bee-centered approach can help us reestablish a reverent and respectful relationship with them.
This three-class series will explore honeybees from new vantage points and will provide an overview of a holistic approach to apiculture. Topics will include: Biology, the life forces and natural gestalt of bees, alternative beehive designs, a comprehensive approach to bee-health and varroa mites, an overview and study of the life-rhythms and cycles throughout the bee year, biodynamic approaches and bee-centered management, along with the study of various texts and contemporary bee research.
This series is designed to be a resource for practicing beekeepers as well as for beginners and all “bee-lovers.” Classes can be booked individually or as a series. A fresh, delicious vegetarian lunch is included with each class.
