Dogen: Lost and Found in TranslationCelebrating the International Release of the Complete Translation of Dogen Zenji's Masterwork, Treasury of the True Dharma Eye: Zen Master Dogen's Shobo Genzo.November 6–7, 2010 Live Video Stream at LiveStream: A live video stream of the afternoon panels and presentations will be offered via LiveStream, with real-time text-based chat. We invite you to take part in a diverse gathering of scholars, Zen teachers, translators, authors, and artists in commemorating the publication of the newest edition of Dogen's masterwork intended for use by the general public. Beautifully poetic without sacrificing accuracy, Kazuaki Tanahashi's landmark translation offers the most accessible interpretation of Dogen's philosophical expressions of Zen wisdom available to Western readers. The forum will feature a distinguished group of students and teachers of Zen including Kazuaki Tanahashi, Peter Levitt, William Bodiford, Steven Heine, Susan Moon, Edward Espe Brown, Brad Warner, and many more. Panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and dharma talks will be enriched by a film screening of “ZEN: The Life of Zen Master Dogen,” directed by Bunmei Takahashi, along with an exhibition of Zen calligraphy by Kazuaki Tanahashi, and a shakuhachi (bamboo flute) performance by Masayuki Koga. Four Bay Area locations will host the two-day celebration; San Francisco Zen Center’s City Center and Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, the Fort Mason Conference Center, and Greens Restaurant. Some events are free and open to the public; others require a small one-time registration fee.
