Zen is our Everyday Life
led by Abiding Abbot Rinso Ed Sattizahn
September 29 - December 5
Commuter and residential options available
To carry yourself forward and experience myriad things is delusion. That myriad things come forth and experience themselves is awakening. —“Genjokoan” by Eihei Dogen
We will be using “Genjokoan” and additional famous Zen koans to study how to extend our Zen practice into our daily life: family, work, relationships, ambition, fear and suffering. This fall practice period is a chance to intensify your practice with daily sitting, study, practice discussion with the teacher and the head student, and sangha discussions during our weekly tea together.
The practice period begins with an orientation on the evening of Monday, September 28. There will be one-day sittings on October 3 and November 7, and we will end with the seven-day Rohatsu Sesshin, November 29 through December 5.
Commuting participants join the practice period at a level of commitment that is appropriate to their circumstances.
Residential practice period participants join the full practice period schedule, or a limited schedule that includes everything except the daily work practice. Residential participants should plan to arrive by the early afternoon of September 28.
Deadline for residential applications: August 5, 2015.
Note: We will accept new residential participants in the practice period based on available housing. If you want to practice as a resident, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as residential space is limited, but before August 5.
