Come As You Are
led by Shosan Victoria Austin and Shinki Mark Lancaster
May 12 - June 21, 2014
Residential and nonresidential options available
Suzuki Roshi taught, “When you are you, Zen is Zen.” However, because our tradition has been transmitted monastically, priests and lay practitioners alike tend to develop a monastic persona as we explore and deepen our study of the Way.
What would it be like to drop the armor, to use the power and beauty of the formal practice to deepen self-study, while acknowledging and meeting our needs, structure, and function as human beings? In this six-week practice period, participants will receive and give support to “settle the self on the Self, and let the flower of the life force bloom.”
The practice period begins with an orientation on the evening of Monday, May 12. The practice period includes a one-day sitting on May 17 and a half-day sitting on May 31; it concludes with a three-day sesshin, June 19-21.
Nonresident participants join the practice period at a level of commitment that is appropriate to their circumstances.
Nonresidential Fee: $75 plus additional fees for sittings, classes, sesshins, workshops and events, as indicated. Use the ticket table below or include payment with your application, or call our toll free number (888.743.9362) or our local number (415.475.9362).
Residential practice period participants join the full practice period schedule, or a limited schedule that includes everything except the daily work practice. Residential participants should plan to arrive by the early afternoon of May 12.
Deadline for residential applications: Monday, April 14, 2014
Note: We will accept new residential participants in the practice period based on available housing. If you want to practice as a resident, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as residential space is limited.
