with Issho Fujita “Breath from the nose is stealthily spreading all over the body” This short sentence is an only description of the breath during zazen by Dogen Zenji in Fukanzazengi(Universal Promotion of the Principles of Zazen). How can we embody it through zazen practice? It would be a mistake to take “how-to-do” approach to realize this kind of breath. It is not a matter of adding anything special to the breath, of mastering a new breathing technique, or of trying to improve the breath. It is to discover the naturalness of our breath. In this workshop, through lecture and various exercises, we explore the world of breath in zazen and understand the depth of zazen from the viewpoint of the breath. Participants may join the schedule at any point in this day-long retreat.
