Wholeheartedness—A Day of Sitting for People in Recovery, CC 10/20

with Ryotan Cynthia Kear
Sunday, October 20, 2013
10 am - 5 pm

We live in a demanding society, at a demanding time. Speed and acquisition are daily pressures. Busyness is a badge of honor. As a result, we often feel fragmented, skittering along the surface of life while longing to feel more integrated, more wholehearted.

Without ignoring the myriad demands of work, relationships and bills, can we settle in and live our lives more wholeheartedly? Amid the broader societal background, can our deepest, truest self—the self that wants to be awake, the self that wants to be recovered—gather itself in an authentic, sustainable way and walk this world with peace and ease?

Both recovery and practice offer paths to do so. Recovery offers us HOW: honesty, openness and willingness, core spiritual principles. Practice offers us the eightfold noble, essential teachings of the Buddha. Cultivating both paths and weaving them together is vital if we are to transform our suffering and experience well-being.

We’ll explore the natural, sturdy weave of these two paths in this day of gentle sitting. Four periods of 30-minute mediation will be interspersed with two talks, zazen, kinhin (walking meditation) and stretching—which are capped with a 12-step meeting.  This day is suitable for anyone who can sit a period of 30 minutes.

For questions, please contact Cynthia Kear (), who looks forward to sinking into a day of shared practice with you...wholeheartedly.

Please bring your own brown bag lunch.
