The Spirit of Practice: Christian and Zen, TJ 7/26 – 7/31
July 26 – 31, 2017 (Wednesday – Monday)
Discover the awakening practices at the heart of religious traditions.
Awakening the heart and mind has taken many forms throughout the centuries. Now, here in the United States, it is being shaped by both Eastern and Western influences. As many of you can confirm, our beloved Brother David Steindl-Rast and Ryushin Paul Haller have for over a decade discussed the similarities and differences between Zen and Christianity at our annual workshop at Tassajara. Sadly, Brother David will not be coming this year.
This year we will explore Brother David’s influential and creative teachings and practices in relationship to meditation and prayer, faith and spiritual authenticity, and awakening and salvation using teachings from his books and what new and former participants in this workshop have gathered from reading and listening to his teachings. Paul will discuss them from a Zen perspective and offer related experiential exercises during the workshop.
Closer to the date of the workshop Paul will contact the attendees and solicit their input and send articles from Brother David relevant to the topics that are chosen.
