with Zoketsu Norman Fischer
in the City Center Buddha Hall
Friday, August 7, 2015
10 am - 4 pm Life is hard: love and compassion are necessities for basic sustainability.
Based on Norman's book Training in Compassion: Zen Teachings on the Practice of Lojong
, which is in turn based on a popular traditional Indo-Tibetan text, this workshop will focus on compassion. Norman will offer practical exercises for reducing self-centeredness—which comes so naturally to us, yet causes us so much pain—and developing compassion. We will practice silent meditation, listen to presentations, and engage in discussion and imaginative exercises designed to bring the material home to the particularity of our lives today.
Books can be purchased in advance and will be available at the Zen Center bookstore. Fees:
$80; $72 current SFZC members; $64 limited income.
- Fee includes lunch and afternoon tea.
