Learn how to more skillfully handle the anger and strong emotions that arise in the practice of law. This retreat will offer 4 hours of MCLE credit: 2 ethics, 1 elimination of bias, and 1 substance abuse.
In this retreat we will enjoy the quiet and beauty of Tassajara. Through deep listening, discussion, and quiet we will work with how we handle the anger and strong emotion that arise as we practice law. Our practice is intense and intimate, as we work with people’s legal problems, affect their lives in crucial ways, and listen to their hopes and fears, their secrets. Mindfulness is a key to being useful to them. We can use these tools to avoid being caught up in the swirl of thoughts and emotions. We will also look at our judging minds and how they support bias in the legal profession, as well as how to address that bias. Finally, we will devote an hour to looking at substance abuse in the profession and how to avoid it. The retreat schedule will include plenty of time for relaxation and meditation as well.
Lawyers and law professionals; suitable for beginners, as well as experienced practitioners.
