Groundwork: Learning from the Green Gulch Farm and Garden

This year-long series of nine workshops in the Green Gulch Farm and Garden extends through the seasons. Included are fruit tree pruning; home garden establishment, design, and maintenance; as well as two afternoons (June 14 and December 13) of meditation and dharma discussion.

Fee: $25 per session or $200 for the series

Sunday, December 13 - Right in Darkness There Is Light
An afternoon of meditation, dharma and ecology
with Abbot Myogen Steve Stücky and Wendy Johnson
1:30 - 4 pm

In this darkest season of the year we turn toward the light with an afternoon of meditation, dharma discussion and a simple ceremony honoring the upcoming winter solstice.

Abbot Myogen Steve Stücky
Myogen Steve Stücky has been practicing Zen for 35 years and received Dharma Transmission from Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1993. He became co-Abbot of the San Francisco Zen Center in February 2007. Over the past several years, Steve has been in training as an Internal Family Systems Therapist and Pastoral Counselor, and was a previous board president of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association.

Wendy Johnson
Wendy Johnson lived and trained at Green Gulch Farm from 1975-2000. She is one of the founders of the Organic Farm and Garden Program at Green Gulch, a lay dharma teacher, and the author of Gardening at the Dragon’s Gate (Bantam, 2008). Wendy is a garden mentor to the Edible Schoolyard program and a College of Marin instructor in the Environmental Landscape program at the Indian Valley Organic Farm and Garden project.

Skip Kimura
Skip Kimura began studying horticulture in 1975, apprenticed with Alan Chadwick at the Round Valley Garden Project, and spent a year in the gardens of Great Britain. Designer of the Green Gulch garden, Skip has worked in Marin for 25 years in gardening, garden design, horticultural therapy, and garden coaching.
