Catherine Gammon

Catherine Gammon trained in residence at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center between 2000 and 2011. She was ordained as a priest by Tenshin Reb Anderson Roshi in 2005, and served as shuso, or head monk, for the Spring 2010 practice period at Green Dragon Temple/Green Gulch Farm. In 2010 and 2012 Catherine served as a visiting priest to the Dancing Mountains Sangha in the UK, and during 2013 she practiced as ino and sewing teacher at Brooklyn Zen Center and gave classes there before returning to Green Gulch.

In 2013 Catherine’s novel Sorrow was published by Braddock Avenue Books. Her earlier novel Isabel Out of the Rain was published in 1991, and her shorter fiction has appeared in many literary journals. Before coming to residential Zen training, Catherine taught in the MFA program in creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh, and in recent years has offered Zen-based Writing as Wisdom Project retreats at various venues in the UK, and at Stillpoint Zen Community in Pittsburgh, Brooklyn Zen Center and Green Gulch Farm.
