Contemplative Caregiver Course, 1/24/13 - 11/16/13

Begins January 2013

Contemplative care is more about a way to care than a how or what. It brings the compassion and wisdom that arise from a contemplative practice to the knowledge, skills and best practices of caregiving. Prior exposure to Buddhism is not necessary to gain the benefits from this course.
As Buddhist teachings and mindfulness practice find an increasingly strong presence within American society, there is both an opportunity and a need to train those who provide care so that they may sustain high-quality and patient-sensitive care while not becoming depleted, frustrated, isolated or burned out.

Underpinned by Buddhist teachings The Contemplative Caregiver Course engages individual, family, and paid caregivers in contemplative practices and care methods through eleven months of coursework.

Senior Dharma teachers Linda Ruth Cutts and Fu Schroeder serve as core faculty for the course, which is being led by Jennifer Block, the former Education Director at Zen Hospice Project. Along with guest faculty, they will guide participants in an integral learning experience, incorporating contemplative, didactic, creative, and experiential elements to cultivate the skills of contemplative care.

Participants from a diverse range of backgrounds are welcome—from nurses to yoga instructors to lawyers, mothers, clergy to psychologists. All who attend this course share the intention to develop greater skill and confidence in caring for people who are aging, sick, and dying. Experience with dharma practice is not necessary. CEUs are available.

Upon completion, participants receive a certificate as a Contemplative Caregiver.
