Samantha Ostergaard is a Zen student and yoga teacher who has used yoga to support her zazen practice for almost fifteen years. Her teaching of yoga is deeply influenced by Zen Buddhism, and in her retreats she teaches yoga as a meditative practice of paying close attention to the body, the breath, and the mental and emotional processes. Samantha lived and practiced at Tassajara for three years, receiving lay ordination from Zoketsu Norman Fischer in 2000. Samantha has been a student of yoga since 1991, and has been teaching yoga in the Iyengar tradition since 2002. She taught internationally for the first time in 2011, co-leading a Mindful Yoga and Zen Meditation retreat with Robert in Katmandu, Nepal, as well as teaching yoga workshops in Bangkok, Thailand. Samantha is a graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco. For the last 8 years she has been teaching yoga privately to individuals, specializing in therapeutic yoga for back and neck care. She is currently a student of Chinese Medicine at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and hopes to become a licensed acupuncturist in 2013. Samantha lives next door to the City Center with her husband, Robert Thomas.
