The Koan of Everyday Life (class), CC 10/9 – 11/27

Led by Rinso Ed Sattizahn, Abiding Abbot City Center
in the City Center Dining Room

  Eight Tuesdays, October 9 – November 27, 7:30 – 9 pm

We will explore the role of classical Zen koans and Dogen’s “Genjo Koan” in our daily practice. The focus of our exploration will be the depth and poignancy of our ordinary human life.

We will use the book Dogen’s Genjo Koan, Three Commentaries. The commentaries are by Shunryu Suzuki, the founder of SF Zen Center, Kosho Uchiyama, and Bokusan Nishiari. Shunryu Suzuki lectured on “Genjo Koan” almost every year from 1965 to 1971. It was the core of his teachings.

Appropriate for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
